Abstract:
Objective To study the influence of Isopropyl Nitrate (IPN) leakage in fuel air explosive on the thermal stability of single-base propellant. Methods The thermal decomposition of single-base propellant under IPN was tested with accelerating rate calorimeter (ARC), and the thermal decomposition characteristic parameters were determined. The kinetic parameters were calculated by the rate constant method. Results Temperature-time curves and pressure-time curves were obtained for the thermal decomposition of single-base propellant. It was found that the initial exothermal temperature and apparent activation energy E remained almost the same after mixing with IPN. Conclusion These results showed that IPN did not significantly affect the initial exothermal temperature and activation energy of single-base propellant, and thus would not decrease its thermal stability.
