Abstract:
Objective To analyze the cause for the peeling phenomenon of the anticorrosive finishes for steel structure. Methods The compositions of paint and varnish were tested and analyzed by mass spectrometer, environmental scanning elecron microscope and ICS1100. Results High boiling point solvents were found in polyurethane paint and varnish samples. Inadequate curing of the varnish was found by microscopic morphology analysis, and ammonium salt was detected in the extraction liquid of the varnish sample. Conclusion The high boiling point solvents, the separation of small molecules in low temperature environment and warm-damp marine environment were the main causes for the large-area peeling phenomenon of finishes.
